Jonny Evans has taken more points per game than likes of Robin van Persie & Gareth Bale
Jonny Evans has, over the past year, established himself in
the minds of many as the most valuable defender at the disposal of Sir
Alex Ferguson, and the Northern Ireland international now has the stats
to prove it.
Manchester United
are able to take, on average, more points per game with Evans in the
side than with any other player, with the club earning an impressive
2.71 points every time the centre-back has featured in the Premier
League this season.
Evans has played in 17 of Manchester United's 27 outings, 16 of which
have been starts, and not only has the best record of any player at Old
Trafford, but the 25-year-old averages more points per game than anyone
else in the Premier League.
Robin van Persie, Luis Suarez and Gareth Bale may be taking the
plaudits for their goalscoring performances this season, but none of
these players can boast more than even two points per game played in the
league.
Evans is followed by teammates Rafael da Silva (2.64 points per game)
and David de Gea (2.63) into second and third respectively in the
Premier League MVP rankings, while Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele
(2.35) is the first non Manchester United entry.
Roberto Mancini's decision to oust Joleon Lescott in favour of summer
acquisition Matija Nastasic has been justified with the young defender Manchester City's most valuable points earner this term, with the club managing 2.25 points every time he has started.
Gael Clichy is not far behind his City clubmate on 2.20 points per
game while, elsewhere, Spurs have benefitted from Hugo Lloris replacing
Brad Friedel in goal, with 2.18 points secured in every match since the
Frenchman was favoured to the veteran American.
Other notable MVPs are Chelsea
pair Ashley Cole, who looked set to leave the club at the end of the
season, and much-maligned David Luiz, with both players ensuring the
Blues have taken, on average, two points each time they have played.
